چکیده

The use of atracurium in 25 patients undergoing general surgical procedures is described, neuromuscular function being monitored by the "train-of-four" stimuli. An initial dose of atracurium 0.5 mg kg-1 proved to be clinically acceptable, giving good conditions for endotracheal intubation and adequate muscle relaxation for about 40 min. Comparison of the results with those from 15 patients given suxamethonium 50 mg showed that atracurium in this dosage took longer to produce complete ablation of the twitch responses but that it lasted longer (about 40 min). Incremental doses of atracurium (of 0.2 mg kg-1) gave relaxation for about 30 min and there was no evidence of a cumulative effect. Reversal of the neuromuscular block with neostigmine was prompt and adequate. Using simple clinical means no evidence of an important change in heart rate or arterial pressure was found. There were no adverse reactions to the drug.

Use of atracurium in cardiac surgery involving cardiopulmonary bypass with induced hypothermia.

Atracurium was administered by infusion to 12 anaesthetized patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass and induced hypothermia. Following an initial bolus dose of 0.6 mg kg-1, an infusion of atracurium was continued at an average rate of 0.0066 +/- 0.0003 mg kg-1 min-1 (0.4 mg kg-1 h-1) which was sufficient to maintain 90-95% block of the single twitch or train-of-four resp...

Comparison of Two Different Induction Doses of Atracurium in Myasthenia Gravis in Patients Undergoing Thymectomy

Introduction:yasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disorder resulting from a decreased number of active acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction. Thymectomy is one of its current treatments. Due to sensitivity of myasthenic patients to non-depolarizing muscle relaxants and also the interaction of this medication with anti-cholinestrase drugs, determining the dosage of non-depolarizing ...

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was comparison of priming and intubating dose of Atracurium on the onset of muscle relaxation time to testing an alternative method for urgent operation. one hundred, 20-30 years old men that were condidate for urgency surgery entered in this study and divided in two groups randomly. First group was relaxed with Priming dose of Atracurium. In this way, %5 mg (pr...

Use of atracurium during major abdominal surgery in infants with hepatic dysfunction from biliary atresia.

The use of atracurium during major abdominal surgery was assessed in 20 infants with hepatic dysfunction caused by biliary atresia. An initial dose of 0.6 mg kg-1 provided excellent intubating conditions in all patients. Subsequent neuromuscular blockade was monitored with a peripheral nerve stimulator and incremental doses of atracurium were given on reappearance of a single twitch. Neuromuscu...

A comparison of atracurium and alcuronium during halothane anaesthesia by measurement of the train-of-four response of the adductor pollicis muscle and clinical observation.

Atracurium and alcuronium have been compared during halothane anaesthesia, by measurement of the mechanical response of the adductor pollicis muscles to train-of-four stimulation and by clinical observation. Atracurium appeared significantly shorter-acting than alcuronium. However, results suggested that the action of alcuronium may not be of "medium duration". A comparison of three indices of ...
